ICF 16

Results from ICF 16 (10/23/09):

Steven Singleton vs. Daniel Harrington
Amateur - scheduled for 3 rounds (3x3x3)

Round 1: Both fighters come out swinging hard, with a couple of good exchanges early. Singleton lands a big shot and drops Harrington to the mat and then moves in for the finish. Harrington grabs Singleton’s leg and gets him down but he lands in full guard with a tight guillotine choke applied, Harrington taps. Singleton def. Harrington via submission (guillotine choke) – Round 1, 2:06


Robbie Walker vs. Trent Thomas
Amateur - scheduled for 3 rounds (3x3x3)

Round 1: The fighters immediately come out swinging and Walker catches Thomas with a shot to the chin, which drops him. Walker moves in to finish and Thomas grabs both legs and pulls Walker to the ground but Walker grabs a guillotine choke on the way down and forces Thomas to tap. Walker def. Thomas via submission (guillotine choke) – Round 2, 2:33.


Shiva Mahabir vs. Greagg Stracener
Amateur - scheduled for 3 rounds (3x3x3)

Round 1: Stracener snaps a nice jab that lands and Mahabir immediately rushes in and takes Stracener to the ground and lands in full mount. Stracener turns to avoid shots and Mahabir takes his back and quickly gets both hooks in. Mahabir flattens Stracener out and begins to drop hard strikes down on Stracener’s head, Stracener’s is defenseless and the referee stops the match. Mahabir def. Joel Miller vs. Yancy Martin
Amateur - scheduled for 3 rounds (3x3x3)

Round 1: Martin comes out and starts with some good kicks to the legs and body. Miller works for a takedown but Martin reverses and lands in Miller’s guard. Miller works back to his feet and both fighters exchange knees in the clinch. Miller works for another takedown but Martin is again able to reverse it. Martin is unable to do any damage but works some minor ground and pound to end the round out. (LocalMMANews sees it 10-9 for Martin).

Round 2: Martin opens the round up with a strong takedown and then quickly moves to the side control. Martin is then able to transition into full mount and steps over for an armbar attempt, Miller is able to slip out the back but Martin is still able to regain top position. From the bottom Miller sinks in a triangle choke and then transitions the move to an armbar but Martin is able to get out of both submission attempts and retain top position to end out the round. Round 3: Both fighters come out swinging for the fences. Miller lands a couple of good shots before the fighters tie up and then Miller is able to work the fight to the ground. Miller is in top position but both fighters are unable to get any type of offense going, the referee stands them back up. After a quick exchange Martin grabs a double leg and scores with a takedown but again the fighters get stood back up due to the lack of activity. Doug Keefe vs. Joe Maiani
Amateur - scheduled for 3 rounds (3x3x3)

Round 1: Both fighters throw a couple of shots early but nothing lands. Keefe throws a kick to the body but Maiani catches it and throws Keefe to the ground. Once on the ground Maiani works to side control and gets a few shots in before Keefe is able to work the fight back to the feet. With both fighters standing again, Maiani quickly moves in and scores with another nice takedown and rides out the round on top. (LocalMMANews sees it 10-9 Maiani)

Round 2: Maiani starts the round with a quick takedown and works to side control position. Keefe is able to work Maiani back to his guard and attempts to lock in a triangle choke but Maiani is able to slip out and retain top position. After a lull in action the referee stands the fighters up and again Maiani is able to quickly move in and score another takedown right as the round ends (LocalMMANews sees it 10-9 Maiani).

Round 3: The fighters exchange to start the round and Keefe lands a big punch that drops Maiani and stuns him momentarily. Keefe drops down on Maiani and lands a few more punches as Maiani grabs a leg and works to improve his position. Keefe reaches down and locks on a tight arm triangle choke and puts Maiani out. Keefe def. Maiani vis submission (arm triangle choke) - Round 3, 2:34


Brett Ewing vs. Wesley Barrentine
Amateur - scheduled for 3 rounds (3x3x3)

Round 1: Ewing opens right up with a quick takedown and lands in full mount. Ewing is working good ground and pound but Barrentine is able to transition to a tight triangle choke. Barrentine has the choke on tight but Ewing is able to hold on and eventually pull out of the hold and land back in Barrentine’s guard after a quick scamble for position. Ewing again works to full mount but the round ends (LocalMMANews sees it 10-9 Ewing).

Round 2: Ewing quickly rushes in to score a takedown and moves to side control. Barrentine works back to full guard and both fighters are unable to produce any offense. The referee stands them up and Ewing again works for a takedown and gets the fight to the ground. The round ends with Ewing in top position (LocalMMANews sees it 10-9 Ewing).

Round 3: Ewing again gets a quick takedown and works to full mount. From the mount Ewing starts dropping heavy shots until the referee stops it. Ewing def. Barrentine via referee stoppage (strikes) – Round 3, 2:17


Alexander Smith vs. Eric Moell
Amateur - scheduled for 3 rounds (3x3x3) - for the vacant 145 ICF featherweight title

Round 1: Moell comes out and immediately shoots for a takedown but Smith stuffs it and drops down into Moell’s guard. Moell works from the bottom and and locks in a triangle choke but the hold is not that tight and Smith is able to pull out and work to full mount position. Moell pulls off a sweep and gains top position on Smith as the round ends. (LocalMMANews sees it 10-9 Smith).

Round 2: Moell comes out and immediately shoots in for a takedown but Smith catches him with a guillotine choke and forces Moell to tap. Smith def. Moell via submission (guillotine choke) – Round 2, 2:45


Marcus Finch vs. Richie Mayes
Amateur - scheduled for 3 rounds (3x3x3)

Round 1: Both fighters come out with good strikes. Finch lands a couple of crisp leg kicks. The fighters trade knees in the clinch and Mayes is able to score a takedown. Mayes is able to land a few punches from Finch’s guard as the round ends. (LocalMMANews sees it 10-9 Mayes).

Round 2: Finch comes out moving quickly tries to get in and out with his shots. Neither fighter is landing many shots but Mayes still tries to push the pace. Mayes is able to land a couple of jabs before the round comes to an end. (LocalMMANews sees it 10-9 Mayes)

Round 3: Mayes comes out and lands a couple of nice kicks and both fighters are throwing wild power shots in the exchanges but nothing lands clean. Finch is able to score a takedown as the round ends. (LocalMMANews sees it 10-9 Mayes) Mayes def. Finch via unanimous decision


George Oiler vs. Brandon Howard
Pro - scheduled for 3 rounds (5x5x5)

Round 1: Oiler comes out quickly and gets the fight to the ground with a takedown and works to full mount. Howard turns away from the punches and gives up his back and Oiler sinks in both hooks and tries to lock in a rear naked choke but Howard is able to keep his chin down and turns into Oiler to break the hold. Howard is able to work the fight back to the feet briefly but Oiler again is able to get a takedown and work to full mount. From the mount Oiler transitions to an armbar is gets Howard to tap. Oiler def. Howard via submission (armbar) – Round 1, 4:04

Chad Hinton (champ) vs. Just Moore
Pro - scheduled for 3 rounds (5x5x5) – For the ICF lightweight title

Round 1: Hinton comes out firing some good kicks to the legs and body. Hinton fires off a superman punch that just barely misses Moore and Moore goes in for a takedown but Hinton stuffs it and drops down into full mount. Hinton lands a couple of hard unanswered shots from the top and puts Moore out. Hinton def. Moore via KO – Round 1, 2:12
